IPO Candidate WhiteSmoke Generates Revenue of $3.3 Million Last Quarter

WhiteSmoke Inc., an English writing and translation software company seeking to go public in the U.S., published their latest numbers from quarter 1 of 2011 in the company's latest initial public offering prospectus on Monday, June 27th, 2011. The company offering is being underwritten by Rodman & Renshaw LLC and EarlyBirdCapital Inc., popular companies in the IPO scene.
WhiteSmoke has applied for Nasdaq listing under the ticker symbol “WHSM” while targeting the Education, Government and Business markets, all showing a growing demand for what this small hi-tech company offers. WhiteSmoke Inc. claims in their prospectus that though there are other companies they consider competitors in similar markets, they have yet to see anything similar to or at the level of their own solution. The Education, Government and Business markets are huge, and with the statistics in the “Industry” section of their prospectus showing the growing need for English as a common language on a worldwide scale, it seems this company has a bright future ahead of them.
The company has developed a PC solution that corrects grammar, spelling, style, punctuation and structure errors in texts as well as translates full texts and single words to and from nine languages. In addition, their product includes a Templates tab allowing the user to choose from a multitude of letter templates for instant use. A Mac version identical to their current PC version will be available by the end of this fiscal year. Also predicted to be launched by the end of this year is the WhiteSmoke Facebook application. In addition, applications for iPhone, iPad and Android are predicted to be launched by the end of 2012.
WhiteSmoke Inc., mentioned Monday that additional funding is needed to finance operations for the next 12 months. Evolution Venture Capital Fund, investors of WhiteSmoke Inc., have told the company that they are willing to provide the company with funding they require.
In addition to their flagship product, WhiteSmoke Writer, the company also offers a free trial version available for download together with toolbar applications from third-party monetization companies. Since the launch of this free product last year, it has become a huge revenue source for the company.
WhiteSmoke generated a total revenue of $3.3 million last quarter, a substantial grown from less than $1 million the year before and expect to continue to grow their operations by opening offices and hiring personnel worldwide.

Virtual Translator API Rally

So what's going on now with the Translate API that Google cancelled? They announced that it will no longer be active by December, but now there are rumors that they will still provide the API, just for a price. So is it true or just that - rumors?
Honestly, we need to know. I mean, as someone who has a website and product that very much relies on this API, I think it would only  be fair to give us time to prepare. Saying that they are cancelling it in December does that, but what do I do know with the paid-version rumors?
I've already started looking into WhiteSmoke Translator for an alternative. To be honest, I  first thought of Babylon Translation - but apparently their translation also relies on Google's Translate API!!!
For now, WhiteSmoke is the only company I found that owns their own translation software.
I've also done a bit of digging into this technology - apparently there are only four companies in the whole word who have this technology (SMT - statistical machine translation). Google and WhiteSmoke are both of those four - does anyone know who the other two are?

Google, Microsoft, WhiteSmoke Translator APIs

Wow... Google's latest news created a tsunami of very angry posts everywhere.
I understand, I too use the Google API and will have to find an alternative for my sites.
At first I was thinking Microsoft but then when I translated a couple of sentences in the Bing Translator and the the Google Translator, there was no doubt that the Google Translator translated better.
Then I tried WhiteSmoke - I have the software and there's a Translator tab there. The translations there are better than Bing, just as good as Google and have nothing to do with the Google API!

Now... is there a WhiteSmoke Translator API available? I couldn't find any information so I call out to all affiliates and business owners out there who are outraged by Google's news and bummed by the Bing/Microsoft alternative - ask for a WhiteSmoke Translator API! It's like a virtual rally with "We want a WhiteSmoke API" signs. Maybe if we make enough virtual noise, they'll provide the service, because their Translator is definitely worth it!

My Rant on Spelling Mistakes

First of all, I’d like to thank “Jane” of Mediocre Jane for the great newbie blog. Jane usually blogs concerning topics she can rant about. It’s actually quite entertaining. You should definitely check it out. Speaking of rants, it’s time for me to go on one of my own…

With all the spell-checking options available, how is it that I still see so many spelling mistakes? If I make a typo in any Microsoft program or my Internet Browser (the main places I write), a little squiggly line appears to bring it to my attention. It’s so easy to slip up, but it’s so hard to ignore those squiggles. There is absolutely no excuse for spelling mistakes in written work, and I’m sick of seeing them everywhere.

Context-based errors are more difficult to catch, but that’s why software like WhiteSmoke comes into play. WhiteSmoke 2011 with WhiteSmoke Translator works with pretty much any text-based application and catches spelling, grammar and style mistakes, including contextual ones.
